Pre-Purchase Surveys

If you have decided to take the plunge, you may have found your perfect boat and perhaps even put an offer on it – but please be mindful that this should always be with the expert advise and guidance of a Pre-Purchase Survey, or a Full Condition Report, as they are also known. But what are they and why are they so important?

Osmosis: The picture above shows signs of blistering, a sign of osmosis in a vessel unknown until lifted out of the water.

You would never buy a house without having a survey completed, and so it should be when buying a boat - missing this stage could lead to some very costly surprises down the line!

A Pre-Purchase Survey is a comprehensive report to determine both the good and bad points of a craft, outlining any problems that would need sorting - and how this should be reflected in the sale price.

The Surveyor will inspect the hull for any water intrusion, check the running gear, electrics, plumbing, air conditioning, and all other parts, identifying any faults and possible future works.

Inspection: The photograph indicates the surveyor testing for play (movement) from the fitting of the propulsion unit.
